A STAGE version of the beloved 70s sitcom The Good Life is coming to the Green Room Theatre in Carlisle.

The series, which starred Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal as the idealistic couple who leave the rat race and become suburban smallholders - to the horror of their prim neighbours played by Penelope Keith and Paul Eddington - was adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams in 2021.

Sams’ stage play reunites the well-loved characters (including Geraldine the goat) as they get themselves into and out of assorted scrapes.

The Green Room adaptation is directed by Verity Ramsden who, since moving to Wetheral in 2021, has written and directed two pantomimes and starred in several shows - as well as becoming musical director of Wetheral church choir.

A fan of The Good Life since childhood, Ms Ramsden said: "We’ve assembled a really lovely and talented bunch of actors, plus an impressive tech and backstage team.

"They’ve been a joy to work with and will bring the TV show to life before your eyes.

"It’s particularly apt that Mitch, the actor portraying Tom (whose 40th birthday and subsequent midlife crisis trigger the events of the show) is actually going to be turning 40 on the final night of the show... life imitating art!"

In addition to her creative roles, Ms Ramsden is also the vice-chair of the theatre, and has helped with planning applications and listed building consent applications for improvements to the theatre, as (when she’s not on stage) she is a chartered surveyor working with historical buildings.

The Good Life is directed by Verity Ramsden and presented in arrangement with Nick Hern Books Ltd.

Its run at the Green Room Theatre on West Walls in Carlisle will be from October 7 until October 12 with shows at 7.30pm, plus a 2.30pm show on October 12.

Tickets available from carlislegreenroom.uk or from Carlisle Tourist Information.
