WITH fewer than 100 days to go until Christmas, Cumberland Council has announced its autumn and festive programme of events for Carlisle.
Some of this year’s activities will take place in different locations within the city centre to accommodate the multi-million-pound improvements currently underway.
A Cumberland Council spokesperson said: "The delivery of the improvement works to the Greenmarket and Market Square will have a temporary impact on how we deliver events within the city centre.
"Despite this, we are determined to continue with the delivery of a comprehensive programme in support of the city centre and will be encouraging visitors and residents to make a visit and shop local."
Events planned so far include a Quirky Eclectic producers’ market in the city centre on Saturday, October 19, which is to be continued monthly on the third Saturday of every month.
A Remembrance Day-themed yarn bombing will commence from Saturday, October 26, with hundreds of knitted and crocheted poppies, produced by community groups, to be displayed around the city centre - including The Lanes and the steps of the Town Hall.
A Carlisle Fireshow will light up Bitts Park on Saturday, November 2, starting at 6.30pm and featuring more than 2000 fireworks as well as a central bonfire and music.
Taste Cumbria will come to the grounds of Carlisle Cathedral on Saturday, November 2, and Sunday, November 3, coinciding with the Fireshow and featuring food retailers, music, and entertainment to build on the success of Taste Cumbria events in Maryport and Cockermouth.
The Carlisle Teenage Market is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, in the Lanes Shopping Centre, giving young entrepreneurs an opportunity to trade their wares.
And the Devonshire Street Christmas Party will take place on Sunday, November 24, with community groups, schools, and performers taking to the stage.
The Christmas Tree will continue to be placed in the city centre, though for one year only, it may be in a slightly different location.
Thousands of Christmas lights will be lit from Sunday, November 17, in readiness for the Devonshire Street Christmas Party the weekend after.
Cumberland Council will also be supporting the promotion of Small Business Saturday on November 30.
Additional events are in the process of being confirmed and will be announced soon.
Those wishing to be involved should email events@cumberland.gov.uk before Friday, 25 October.
