Work is set to begin this weekend on the 'careful' removal of the War Memorial in Carlisle city centre.
The process will happen in phases, starting with the top section being safely lifted and stored, with the lower section set for removal next week.
The memorial will be repositioned, with full support from the British Legion, ensuring that the Remembrance Sunday commemorations on November 10 will proceed as planned.
The work is part of the planned regeneration of the city centre with work taking place to improve Carlisle's retail hub.

More than £80 million of public funding, from various sources, is anticipated to be invested in projects Carlisle city centre, with hopes of revitalising the city.
Work is also continuing on the Carlisle Southern Gateway project on English Street, which will connect with the recently completed Devonshire Street.
