THE UK High Street is becoming ever-more dog-friendly – with 35 big-name stores now welcoming pooches inside with their owners.

Healthy pet food firm Burns Pet Nutrition is praising big and small shops for helping to make the nation a more pro-pooch environment.

Cumbria is an incredibly pet-friendly county; being home to the Lake District many businesses have felt the need for a lot of years to accommodate people's pets.

Places like Keswick and Ambleside have dog-friendly cafes and pubs, where people can take their pets after a long walk around the lakes or over the fells.

Some major high-street brands are allowing pets into their stores.

Pet Nutritionist and Veterinary Advisor at Burns Pet Nutrition, Emily Boardman says: “It’s amazing that we’re seeing more and more big brand stores open their doors to dogs.

“This is a clear sign of how the British public is becoming more open to having their four-legged friends by their side, rather than being left at home.”

Generally, well-behaved dogs kept on leads are allowed in the following stores. Most stores will also expect owners to clean up after their furry friends, should the need arise.

Superdrug, a major high-street chain with four stores across Cumbria, allows for dogs to be carried into the shop.

Which is like TK Maxx which also allows for dogs to be carried into their stores.

Waterstones, a popular bookstore chain with three Cumbrian stores, is also dog friendly.

Hardware stores like Halfords and Screwfix will be more than happy to let you bring your dog inside.

Other stores with Cumbrian branches like Lush and Fatface also allow dogs into their stores.
