DRIVERS who are planning to use the M6 in Cumbria this weekend are being asked to be aware of a wide load moving through the county. 

SP Energy are moving the huge electricity transformer, which weighs 186 tonnes, from the port at Heysham in Lancashire to Dumfriesshire.

The operation will start at 9am on Saturday, September 28, and take until 3pm on Sunday, September 29 to complete.

The load, which will straddle two lanes and move at 12mph, will travel through Cumbria to Tebay Services, north of Junction 38 on Saturday and will travel from Tebay to Junction 42 at Carlisle before moving onto the A74M on Sunday.

Ahead of the movement, National Highways North West said: "Drivers are advised to check traffic conditions before setting out on journeys.
