A Brampton-born paramedic is set to take on the Great Scottish Run in aid of two charities.

Madeleine Turner, from Brampton, is a paramedic who works in Glasgow and will take on the half-marathon route at the event in the city on Sunday, October 6.

Madeleine is a former student at Brampton's William Howard School and is set to take on the challenge in aid of Scottish charity Blue Light Minds.

The charity, which was established earlier this year, provides psychological support and treatment to Scottish Emergency Service workers who have experienced trauma at work, enabling staff to move on from the traumatic experience.

Maddie will also be supporting international charity Save the Children and before taking on the half marathon has already raised £470 through her JustGiving page.

Speaking ahead of her charity challenge, Madeleine explained more about why she wanted to support the charities.

She said: "I will be completing the Great Scottish Run on October 6 2024 to raise money for two amazing charities, Blue Light Minds and Save the Children.

"Blue Light Minds is a brilliant new charity that has been set up this year. Its aim is to make sure that vital mental health support is accessible to all emergency service workers in Scotland.

"Save the Children helps children across the UK and all over the world by providing medical aid, food, maternal care, and education to those in need.

"They have emergency funds for children in Gaza, Ukraine, and other war-torn places like Sudan which is currently facing the world's worst hunger crisis with 3.7 million children being malnourished.

"I‘d be so grateful for any donations and I hope we can raise even a small amount to help these charities carry out their crucial work and make a positive difference in the world."
