A HEARING will be held by Cumberland Council on Friday to discuss an application for a new premises licence after a Carlisle hotel raised objections.
A licensing sub-committee meeting will consider the application for a new club named 'Alien' on English Gate Plaza after an objection was raised by the management of the Ibis Hotel on Botchergate.
If approved, Alien could be the new nightclub on the site of Truth, which is currently appealing the decision to revoke its licence.
The licensing application documents outlines the plans for the club which would be open until 3am Sunday-Thursday and 4am on Friday and Saturday.
The opening hours are the chief concern raised by the Ibis Hotel and Accor Hotel Group, the latter stated that the 4am closing time on Sunday mornings would cause problems at the hotel due to "revellers behaving anti socially and waking hotel guests."
Kimberley Birkett, the applicant, has said that the club will only be open to SIA badge holders - door staff from local nightclubs and bars - from 3am to 4am for them to relax and enjoy a drink after work.
She also added that SIA badge holders would leave the club quietly and that the bar would be closed at 3.30am.
Ms Birkett has also expressed how she felt "unfairly discriminated against as the nearby ‘Walkabout’ bar had a 4am finish under their premises licence."
Accor Hotel Group has suggested a revised operating schedule to the applicant but this has been rejected.
The group is objecting to the application on four points: the prevention of crime and disorder, prevention of public nuisance, public safety, and protection of children from harm.
It also "objects to any involvement in this or future applications from anybody involved in the previous management of ‘Truth’ nightclub."
Cumbria Police has submitted a revised operating schedule, which was accepted, and has stated that it does not have an issue with the 4am closing time "on the basis that it is used for SIA registered door staff after finishing their shift in the night time economy."
Within the application, Ms Birkett sets out ambitions for Alien which includes an under-18s event every Sunday for young people aged 13-17.
