A Cumbrian singer has been named the best male artist at an entertainment awards.

Kelvin Wood, from Carlisle, received the award at the North of England section of the National Entertainment Awards on September 29, during which he sang his song “Tommy’s Rock and Roll Band”.

Winning for the third year in a row, Mr Wood described the achievement as ‘the most emotional experience’ of his life.

There was more in store for him, though, as he explained: “I had the chance to press the golden button to see if I was the overall winner.

“I completely crumbled when the stage turned gold and golden confetti filled the air as I was announced overall winner for the North of England.

“I felt very humbled and honoured with 1,001 emotions running through me.”

Now he’s London-bound to perform at the O2 arena to represent the north of England at the National Finals on October 25.

“This year has been an incredible journey and I have to keep pinching myself as I also have seven nominations in the Red Carpet Awards in Holland which are held next month; my album “Systematic Countdown” was nominated for best rock album at the Josie Awards in Nashville in October, and a single I wrote and produced myself called  “A Step Behind” was nominated for best single at the Elite Music Awards in New York.

“Singing has always been my passion, and as I approach 25 years in the business in 2025, I have a new album out in January called “25 Not Out” and I’m still very much out there gigging locally and all over the UK, and just the joy of helping people forget their lives worries for a while is so rewarding, but to be acknowledged in this way is just mind-blowing.”
