A 52-YEAR-old woman had magic mushrooms and was growing cannabis at home during a ‘crisis period’.
Elaine Connors was located by police at her home in Frizington, following reports of concern for her welfare. Officers arrived and located her inside the property, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said magic mushrooms and a cannabis grow were found in the bedroom. Three cannabis plants had been harvested. Connors told police that she was harvesting the plants for her personal use.
Ms Fee said it didn’t appear to be a ‘sophisticated set-up’.
Katie Scattergood, defending, said Connors had made full admissions in police interview and with herself.
The defendant had made a referral to The Freedom Project and was working with her GP to receive the correct medication.
At the time, she was in a ‘crisis period’ and had purchased the mushrooms to ‘self-medicate’ with sleeping problems.
She had taken positive steps since her arrest to address the issues in a more positive way, the court heard.
Connors, of Main Street, Frizington, pleaded guilty to producing a Class B drug (cannabis) and possessing a Class A drug.
Magistrates imposed an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered forfeiture and destruction of the drugs and equipment.
Connors must pay £85 costs and a £26 victim surcharge.
