A well-known business consultant is set to retire after 50 years of work.
Mark Hurley started his career in publishing and distribution before moving to engineering and the charity sector.
He then launched his own company, Mark Hurley Consulting Ltd, in 2013.
Since 2017, Mr Hurley has been an associate with the Harrison Network, where he has been described as "one of its most influential and respected associates."
Lucy Harrison, managing director of the Harrison Network, said: "Mark has worked with us since we began in 2017.
"In that time, he’s made a huge positive impact, not only with our clients, their teams and businesses, but also with all of us at Harrison Network and in his other roles too.
"His retirement will be felt across Cumbria and beyond."
Mr Hurley has been praised for his work with people, managers, and their teams, motivating and integrating them with a focus on dealing with change, creating growth, and improving performance.
He has also been instrumental in helping to grow the Harrison Network business and strengthen the team, as well as building relationships across the nuclear, energy, and civil engineering sectors.
Ms Harrison said: "Always upbeat, always positive, always asking challenging questions, Mark has been a wonderful presence for us as a team, and he’s made a big impact in the region too.
"He is someone who genuinely cares about people.
"At the same time, he’s not scared to ask difficult questions – but always from a position of care, not to manipulate anyone or make himself look clever but from a genuine passion for people and a dedication to building their confidence and performance."
Mr Hurley has also made a significant impact on the county’s young people, having served as chair of trustees of the Cumbria Youth Alliance after several years as a trustee.
Becky Wolstenholme, the alliance’s current CEO, said: "Mark’s dedication and commitment in his role as chair of trustees have been nothing short of inspiring.
"His kindness and willingness to devote significant time and effort to ensure that the young people of Cumbria receive the services and support they deserve are truly commendable."
"When I joined Cumbria Youth Alliance almost four years ago, Mark Hurley was there to guide and support me.
"He challenged me but always gave me the confidence to aim higher for the benefit of all our young people in Cumbria.
"His business acumen and his calm and thoughtful approach to difficult situations meant that together, along with the whole staff team and trustees, we have been on a remarkable transformation."
"At CYA, we have all been deeply grateful for Mark’s immense contribution, unwavering commitment, and lasting legacy.
"We wish him the very best in his retirement, filled with joy, peace, and cherished moments with his family."
Even in retirement, Mr Hurley is keen to continue using his experience and skills with organisations from a voluntary perspective.
However, as he retires from the Harrison Network, Ms Harrison said: "It's been a joy having Mark with us, and his infectious laughter has brought so much warmth to our team.
"We're already looking forward to having him back in future, not just to catch up, but also to share more of those moments that have become highlights of our meetings.
"We are going to miss him."
