A WEST Cumbrian businesswoman helped mark a special celebration for two guide dogs.

Lynda Connors, the owner of the Hunger Hero, a dog-friendly café in Cleator Moor, made a special ‘pup cake’ to celebrate the first birthday of guide dog sisters Tansy and Zara.

Anita Seals, who is raising Tansy, of Cleator Moor, said the pups are among the growing number of guide dogs being raised across the county.

“It’s great having the support of local people and businesses that allow them to further their training,” Ms Seals said.

She added: “Being a puppy raiser is a commitment but there are so many benefits.

“The Guide Dog Association pays for all their food and veterinary bills and supplies everything needed to raise a pup.

“As a puppy raiser, you get so much training, one-to-one with the guide dog staff, on Zoom calls and in puppy classes.

“You learn new training skills and get to meet lots of new people, and best of all you get to keep a puppy for 10-14 months.”
