ASPATRIA Town Council has announced that it has taken down its festive lights but has promised that Christmas will still be 'coming to town'.
The council announced on Wednesday, October 2 that it would be taking down its Christmas lights that are powered by and fixed to residents' homes after receiving feedback from locals.
However, they assured locals that this will not curtail the Christmas spirit in the area with an 'ongoing project' already in motion for a number of festive events and alternative lights.
The council also confirmed that its Christmas lights switch-on event will be taking place on Sunday, December 1.
Writing on social media, they said: "We would like to inform you of a couple of things regarding Christmas this year.
"Due to our Christmas lights being powered and fixed to residents' homes and recently receiving a lot of feedback from residents not wanting the lights on their properties any longer, plus the maintenance cost of the lights each year, we have decided to take down the Christmas lights.
"However, we do have plans in place for the town. This is going to be an ongoing project each year so please bear with us but I can assure you, Christmas is coming to town.
"As always we will be looking for businesses to donate to help us fund the lights and events we have planned."
