A DRUNK pubgoer who pulled a woman’s hair and ‘swung her round’ the dancefloor told police she ‘wasn’t a violent person’.

Katie Jamieson, 38, was seen by police being ejected from the Joe Bananas pub in Whitehaven on September 15. Police attempted to engage with her but she was ‘loud and aggressive’, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the defendant was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. Prior to this, Jamieson had assaulted a woman on the dancefloor of the pub by ‘pulling her hair a number of times’.

The victim said Jamieson, who was not known to her, ‘kept bumping into her’ and pulled her by the hair ‘multiple times’ and was ‘swinging her round’.

The victim said she didn’t have any hands free to defend herself and had attempted to pour her drink over Jamieson but was unsuccessful. Jamieson continued to pull ‘aggressively’ on the woman’s hair.

She was then ejected from the pub and was seen ‘kicking off’ and ‘shouting’ at the door staff.

A statement from the victim said: “I don’t know this female. I have never seen her before and she has no right to assault me.”

When interviewed by police, Jamieson had a ‘limited recollection’ of the events. She said she had been out with her daughter and her friend. She had been at a few different bars and was ‘drunk’.

She told police she wasn’t a violent person and was ‘just drinking and having a good time’.

John Cooper, defending, said: “It’s unfortunate. She has got no previous convictions.

“She clearly accepts it has happened. She wasn’t saying, ‘I haven’t done it’. She’s just saying, ‘I can’t remember’.

“She’s very apologetic. She has no previous experience of police or court.”

Jamieson, of Mill Hill, Cleator Moor, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

The defendant was fined £200 and ordered to pay £50 in compensation. She must also pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
