A NEW development is on the horizon for students at a Cockermouth primary school which has officially submitted planning permission for a new sports pavilion and outdoor learning area on its school field.

The initiative at Fairfield Primary School aims to enhance physical education, promote outdoor learning, and provide students with a 'versatile space' for various activities.

The proposed sports pavilion will feature changing rooms, storage for sports equipment, and an indoor area that can accommodate multiple activities.

In addition to the sports pavilion, the project includes the development of an outdoor learning space. This area will be equipped with growing space and educational resources to facilitate hands-on learning experiences in nature, and allowing students to explore subjects like science, art, and environmental studies in an outdoor setting.

“We are thrilled to take this step towards improving our school’s facilities," said the Learning for Life Trust’s primary executive, Chris Steele.

"The new sports pavilion and outdoor learning space will not only benefit our current students but will also create a lasting legacy for future generations.

"We believe that this investment in our school will continue to promote a love for learning and an active lifestyle.”

The school's acting headteacher, Jordan Gale, added: “In order to finalise the design of the pavilion, we have consulted with all stakeholders and our wider community.

"Naturally, it is has ignited excitement and will prove to be a valuable resource for our pupils. We captured the voice of our fabulous children, who aided the design process and we took time to liaise with our neighbouring school, Mayfield (Cockermouth Campus), to ensure designs allowed for dual usage as the resource will be fully inclusive and accessible to all.

"It is an investment that will not only have a lasting, positive impact on our school but on the wider Cockermouth community as a whole.”

The planning application has been submitted and is currently under review. The school is optimistic about receiving approval and, with funding secured, hopes to begin construction within the next year.

Parents, staff, and community members are encouraged to provide feedback and support for the project. For more information about the project visit https://www.fairfieldprimary.co.uk/school-field-development.
