POLICE were called to the scene of a Carlisle building last night after reports of 'young people' on its roof.

Officers from Cumbria Police attended Newspaper House on Dalston Road at around 7.30pm yesterday (October 2).

This was following reports that 'several young people' had climbed onto the building's roof.

"Officers attended but no persons were located," a constabulary spokesperson said.

The building, the former home of the News & Star and The Cumberland News, was sold at auction in June for £835,000.

This followed the demolition of the press hall, situated at the rear of Newspaper House, towards the end of 2021.

The News & Star and The Cumberland News editorial and commercial teams now operate out of the purpose-built LocaliQ House on Newsquest's premises across the car park from Newspaper House.
