Coastguards were called out due to concerns of fishermen in danger in West Cumbria.
A member of the public called Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team yesterday afternoon (October 5) shortly after noon, raising concerns for the safety of two fishermen at St Bees.
A Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team spokesperson explained: “The sea was rough with large breaking waves when we arrived, but we were thankfully met by two experienced and well-equipped fishermen, who were just leaving before high tide.
“As always, we thank the first informant for raising their concerns so the safety of the fishermen could be confirmed.”

They added that a passerby asked how they rescue casualties in rough conditions.
Answering, they said: “There are a variety of options available to us depending on the circumstances, from a stretcher carry or Rope Rescue by our team, waterborne assistance from our colleagues at St Bees RNLI who we routinely work with, to winching by a coastguard rescue helicopter.”
