The community of a Cumbrian town are being called upon to help 'save' one of its oldest pubs.

The Plough Inn at Holburn Hill, Millom is set to go up for auction on October 16 for just £180,000.

The former community pub and restaurant was once three seperate cottages and has six letting rooms as well as a flat for owner's accommodation.

The property dates back as far back as 1866 and is of brick construction sitting under a single pitched tiled roof.

The aim is to keep the building in local ownership.

Bill posted the RightMove listing on his Facebook group, South West Cumbria Local Info.

"The aim is to try and save Millom's oldest working pub," he said, "and keep it in community ownership whether it is to re-open as a pub are not.

"What people are worried about if is if a property developer swoops in, buys it and puts another set of houses there.

"The property could be of great community use - with six bedrooms and a flat, it could really fight social isolation and help vulnerable people.

(Image: Venmore Auctions) "Millom's heritage is dwindling all time and this is a really good opportunity to save part of it.

"You used to be able to start your and end your night out on the Holburn Hill side of town with a pub crawl, but there's hardly any pubs or shops here now.

"It's the oldest part of Millom that dates back centuries that existed long before the iron ore was discovered.

"We don't really want someone from out of town coming in and swooping it up, this is could be a really good investment for the town."
