FORMER politician Alan Johnson will be taking to the stage in Carlisle

'An Evening with Alan Johnson' in conversation with Paul Musgrave will be taking place at the Old Fire Station on Wednesday, October 9.

He will be interviewed on stage about his political career, his passions, and becoming a bestselling author later in life.

He will also talk about his latest book, a biography of ‘Harold Wilson.'

Following the conversation Alan will be taking questions from members of the audience.

An Old Fire Station spokesperson said: "In 1997 he was unexpectedly elected as Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle.

"In his time at Westminster, he held six ministerial appointments including Secretary of State for Education and Skills, Health, and the Home Secretary.

"Tipped as a future party leader Alan declined the opportunity to stand against Gordon Brown in 2007.

"Following the end of his parliamentary career in 2017, Alan embarked on writing memoirs charting his childhood through to his time in Parliament.

"These four volumes all became best sellers and paved the way for yet another career where he is continuing to excel as a writer of thriller and crime fiction."
