The Lanes in the city centre have teamed up with Carlisle Matters to organise a poppy ‘yarnbombing’ display for Remembrance Day.
The group have called out for local knitters to make poppies to help grow the planned display.
The poppies are to have a black centre, either knitted or crocheted and any size.
Along with The Lanes, the 'yarnbombing' display is also going on netting at the Tourist information centre steps and the bollards of Castle Street with the potential of adding some onto other buildings depending on numbers.

A spokesperson for The Lanes said: “Please help if you can in making a poppy or share to those who may be able to.
“We can unite the community in a stunning tribute and thank those who fought for our freedom. Thank you.
“Please hand in the finished poppies, leaving your details, to the Management Suite on Level One of the car park, with the office being near to the bollards.
“For those who are knitting already, please hand them into us as soon as possible.
“We have already had some brought in by some very kind people - thank you.”
The last day to drop off the poppies is Wednesday, October 16.
