We're highlighting the shortlisted salons in our competition in the News & Star. Each of the establishments will be featured over ten issues.
The Beauty Room by Leah Jane has been nominated by News & Star readers as one of the ten finalists in its 'Best Beauty Salon 2024' award.
The salon, located on Wigton's High Street is owned by Leah Scott who opened her business in 2022 in Savannah Staci Hair Salon.
After being informed that The Beauty Room by Leah Jane had been chosen by News & Star readers to feature in the final ten of the 'Best Beauty Salon 2024' award, Leah was on hand to express her delight.
She said: "I was very happy when I received the letter to say that I had been nominated unbeknown to me by my clients and to reach the top 10 is an amazing feeling I am so lucky to have the best friends, family, and clients supporting me.
"A lot of hard work went into opening the salon but all the stress was totally worth it and to see everyone’s reaction to me having my own business after being told so many times to go for it was amazing.
"Still now a lot of hours go into work throughout the week, but it makes it all worthwhile when I get nominated for awards such as these, it makes me feel very appreciated for the work I do."
At her salon, Leah specialises in a number of treatments and discussed the enjoyment she gets from her craft as well as the strong relationships she has with her clients.
She said: "I have over eight years experience in the beauty industry but over the last two years I’ve decided to just specialise and focus on nails, lashes, and brows as there are the treatments I enjoy providing the most.
"My clients love my nail art and I’m always wanting to try out new things and everyone loves being models for new ideas and treatments.
"I have been very lucky to have kept a regular client base since opening my own business.
"The most rewarding part of the job is definitely seeing clients through milestones in their lives from marriage to having and meeting their babies.
"Most of my regular clients come back every three weeks so it’s nice to see them and catch up. My clients really become my friends."
