A MAN from Carlisle has been sentenced to 14 years for rape.

Kevin Clarry, 41, of Charles Street, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court after being found guilty of three counts of rape at a trial that concluded yesterday, October 7.

The offences relate to incidents against one woman. Clarry was also give an indefinite restraining order.

Detective Constable Tony Wheatcroft said: “Offences of this nature can be extremely difficult for victims to speak about.

“Support is available in Cumbria for victims of sexual offences and the Constabulary works closely with trusted partner agencies to provide the appropriate support which is tailored to an individual’s circumstances.

“I would encourage anyone who has been victim to a sexual offence to contact police so that our specially trained officers can investigate and support victims through the criminal justice process”
