FOR this Nostalgia edition we wanted to take a look at Recycle Week.
The week is organised by Recycle Now, who are devoted to encouraging all of us to increase the amount of waste which we recycle.
Recycle Week is an annual event that encourages people to recycle more and avoid unnecessary waste. It takes place in October and is a collaboration between many organizations, including: retailers, brands, waste management companies, trade associations, governments, and the media.
The goal of Recycle Week is to help people make the right recycling choices, inspire people to get involved in their local community, and focus on local economies.
It uses a variety of methods to encourage recycling, including: film, social media, on-street initiatives, influencers, radio, and PR.
The theme of this year's Recycle Week is 'Rescue Me', the campaign will run from October 14 until October 20 with a focus on rescuing recyclable items from heading to the rubbish bin.
By recycling at least one extra item as part of our daily recycling routine will make a huge difference.
Recycle Week 2023 took place between October 16 and October 22, 2023. The theme - The Big Recycling Hunt - focused on “missed capture”: the items that can be recycled but are commonly missed in the home.
The campaign had two distinct elements: firstly for schools – encouraging the country’s children to partake in fun activities throughout Recycle Week, plus a focus on local authorities, partners and brands to share the central the message.
These photos show how recycling has impacted communities in North Cumbria.
