A popular fast-food restaurant in Carlisle has launched a new mobile burger van.

The Crusty Cobbler, which is located on Carlisle's Botchergate, launched its new burger van on Monday, October 7.

The van, which is located at M & B Body Repairs in Anderson's Yard on St Nicholas Street and will serve breakfast items, burgers, and jacket potatoes, is the creation of the Cobbler's owner Ulac Aylanc, with Kelly Richardson and Andrew Moodie manning it on a day-to-day basis.

After opening the new van for the first time, Kelly was on hand to explain why Ulac and The Crusty Cobbler thought it was the right time to get into the burger van business.

She said: "The idea came from the fact that now there are a lot of takeaways in the town and the town is not as busy as it used to be.

"People don't go out as much. There is still the football and we are still busy on a Saturday but through the week it is a bit slower.

"People have come back from festivals this year and said, 'we need to see the Crusty Cobbler at Kendal Calling' and that's when we saw the burger van for sale so we went for it.

"We know it is late for festivals this year but have just spoken to the council about the fireworks at Bitts Park if there is a space left for us."

Kelly also discussed the initial reaction of locals to the new van and the plans to take it on a local tour in the future.

She said: "We have already have a few people asking if we could go to different locations but I think we just wanted to get settled here.

"We are very excited about what it can turn into and we have had customers coming and seeing us and getting a bacon butty.

"People have been really excited about it as well, especially the car garages nearby who have been coming for their dinner."
