People and charities across Carlisle have been marking World Mental Health Day on Thursday October 10.

World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992.

Now in its 32nd year, the day aims to raise awareness of mental health issues and encourage efforts to support those experiencing mental health issues.

For those who might be struggling in Cumbria, there are a number of charities across the region who are here to help, all year long.

Carlisle Eden Mind make mental health an everyday priority and offer help and support to anyone who needs it.

To mark World Mental Health Day, they are hosting events at North Lakes Hotel and Spa, and a quiz at Brewdog Carlisle.

They wrote: "Let's make this day a reminder that mental health is a priority every day. We look forward to connecting with you and raising awareness together. Help us Connect, Support and Change minds in our community."

PAC Therapy is a Carlisle-based charity that provides free counselling and therapy for children and young people.

They said: "PAC provides Art Therapy, Music Therapy & Talk counselling with qualified and accredited professionals at their building on Lowther Street in Carlisle. Recent referral data shows that 50 per cent of PAC’s referrals have experienced suicidal thoughts, 47 per cent have self harmed with 22 per cent having previously made an attempt to take their own life.

"Referrals have significantly increased this year and the demand on our service currently exceeds our capacity as a small charity. We are working hard on fundraising and income generation to enable us to develop our charity and offer more children and young people in our area the support that they need when they need it. We have had some great support from fundraisers and volunteers this year at our PAC in the Park event and The Cumbrian Run."

Other Cumbrian charities include Andy's Man Club, Every Life Matters and Offload Cumbria, all of whom will offer support to anyone who needs it, throughout the year.
