THE former Conservative MP for Workington is mentioned in Boris Johnson’s new memoir ‘Unleashed’.
Mark Jenkinson is mentioned in the book during the former prime minister’s recollection of the 2019 general election in which the Conservatives won an historic victory.
Mr Jenkinson turned the historic Labour stronghold of Workington blue for the first time since the 1970s and was one of a string of former Labour seats which voted Tory for the first time in the north of England and Wales.
‘Workington Man’ was a key political zeitgeist in the election, describing a middle aged, rugby league supporting man, who was a former Labour voter who voted to leave the European Union.
Mr Jenkinson was a keen support of Boris Johnson whilst he was in office and was present at the book’s launch in London.
