A CARLISLE cafe is preparing to launch its new book club, with an unusual twist.
Starting on Wednesday, October 16, Cakes and Ale Carlisle will be holding its first silent book club, a weekly event which encourages avid readers to come along to the cafe and read in a quiet environment.
On Instagram, Bookends wrote: "We're delighted to say our friends at Cakes and Ale are starting a silent book club. There's no assigned book and no expectation to chat.
"It's just an opportunity to enjoy the quiet camaraderie and peace of reading with others."
The book club will run from 3pm until 4pm on each Wednesday afternoon for the foreseeable future, with everyone encouraged to attend.
For those who enjoy a coffee or cake with their dedicated reading time, Cakes and Ale will be more than happy to provide some baked goods and drinks.
Bookends also run a book club on the last Wednesday of each month, from 7pm.
