A CENTENARIAN celebrated her milestone birthday with a holiday, a dance party and cake.

Mary Wigham turned 100 on September 1 and has enjoyed celebrating with family and friends.

Born in the North East in 1924, she lived in Hebburn and was the youngest of her siblings and step siblings.

Her father died when she was about four-years-old. She moved to Cumberland during the war and was in the Land Army, stationed at Ribton Hall Farm in Camerton.

She met her future husband Jack Wigham who worked on some of the farms in Great and Little Broughton.

Mrs Wigham has lived in Little Broughton ever since but goes back to the North East to visit family and for holidays. She has two children, Pauline and Michael.

Her husband had Parkinson's and died in 2008. Mrs Wigham and her son are still members of the West Cumbria Parkinson's group, and go to some of the activities.

To celebrate her birthday, the Parkinson's dance group held a party for her.

Mrs Wigham still enjoys going on holiday and likes to visit Lytham St Annes and stay at the Clifton Park Hotel.

This is where she spent her birthday, with her son, daughter and friend. She also enjoyed afternoon tea at the Craggs Coffee house at Bothel and was joined there by all her nephews and nieces from the North East and London.

When asked how she has got to 100 and what her secret is, Mrs Wigham says she does not know, it is only the grace of God.

She has received about 90 birthday cards and would like to thank everyone who sent her a card and the presents and flowers that she has received.
