A men's mental health support and suicide prevention group is set to open in Wigton next month.

Andy's Man Club (AMC), the nationwide charity, is expanding its network by launching its 207th club at Wigton Hall in November.

The announcement follows after AMC facilitators, John Miller and David Jackson, joined a Wigton Town Council meeting to share the charity's mission and impact.

Town councillor and former mayor, Christopher Scott, said: "I was shocked to learn that male suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK, taking over 4,900 lives.

"This statistic highlights the urgent need for more conversations and support around men's mental health.

"Thankfully, organisations like Andy's Man Club are working to break down these barriers and provide a safe space for men to share their thoughts and feelings.

"Andy's Man Club is a support group where men can come together to talk about their struggles and receive the support they need," he said.

The new Wigton club will be inaugurated on Monday, November 4, at 7pm.

Other Andy's Man Clubs in the county are in Carlisle, Maryport, Barrow, Whitehaven, Workington and Cockermouth.

Andy's Man Club sessions run every Monday, except bank holidays. You need to be 18 or over to attend.
