SOUTH Cumbrian Carlisle United fans have raised over £800 for Kendal Town FC after the club suffered a break-in.
Kendal Town's Westmorland Flooring Stadium was broken into sometime during the week commencing Monday, October 7, with thieves stealing 'essential' kit and causing damage amounting to £800.
The club, which plays in the Ebac Northern League Division One, is currently investigating the incident, however, in response, south Cumbrian Carlisle United fans have come together to support the non-league outfit.
In the wake of the break-in, the Carlisle United South Cumbria Supporters' Club started a GoFundMe page to help Kendal Town replace the stolen kit and repair the damage, with this page raising £805 to date.
Philip Walker is the chair of the Blues' south Cumbrian supporters' club and explained why they wanted to help Kendal Town.
He said: "Kendal Town have been very kind to the South Cumbrian Supporters' Club since day one, especially last year when we had the fans' forum there which Tom Piatak, Patty Piatak, and Paul Simpson attended.
"They gave us the venue at their clubhouse for that event free of charge.
"We have always had a great link with Kendal Town through these forums and the pre-season friendlies that Carlisle has against them and it was something we wanted to do after seeing what had happened and as a way to say thank you for their support to us."
Despite the support from the South Cumbrian football community, the Mintcakes were stark in their assessment of how the incident will affect the club.
Writing on social media, they said: "We are investigating the incident and we encourage anyone with information to come forward.
"These actions hurt not just the club, but also the volunteers, players, and supporters who dedicate their time and effort to keeping Kendal Town running."
Cumbria Police are also investigating the incident and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "The break-in was reported on Wednesday afternoon but may have occurred in days previously.
"A number of items are reported to have been taken including branded kit.
"Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at cumbria.police.uk/reportit quoting the incident number. You can also phone on 101.
"Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
