Construction has started on a new Tesco Express in Penrith.
When Tesco announced the convenience store opening last year, they gave a target of opening in 2025 for the shop next to Carleton Hall Farm, Carleton Avenue.
The store got initial approval from the council's planning authority on January 12, 2024.
The original application was put forward by North Lakes Estates Limited on June 16, 2023.
In a post on social media, Cubby Construction, who is carrying out the work, said: "We’re thrilled to announce that construction has officially started on the brand-new Tesco Express store in Penrith for North Lakes Estates Ltd".
In its initial planning statement, bosses said the convenience store would be an advantage to the local community.
"The significant and most obvious benefit of the proposal will be the new retail offering local to a high number of residential properties and accessed directly off an A-road", it read.
The projected store is expected to create around 20 job opportunities.
These would comprise a mix of full-time and part-time roles.
The Tesco Express plan includes the creation of 19 car parking spaces and will operate from 6am to midnight, Monday to Sunday.
