Abnormal loads will be travelling from Junction 44 of the M6 through to the Newby West Roundabout for the Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR).
At the following times from Monday, October 14 to Thursday, October 17, a series of large vehicles carrying bridge beams will be travelling under police escort from the M6, down the A689 and to the Newby West Roundabout:
• Monday, October 14 – from 7am
• Tuesday, October 15 – from 8am
• Wednesday, October 16 – from 8am
• Thursday, October 17 – from 8am
The transportation of these large steel beams is being conducted in collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of all residents and road users.
These are the first of six steel beams, each measuring 55 meters long, 5 meters tall, and weighing 70 tonnes.
These beams, made from 30-55mm thick steel, are part of the largest structure on the project, The Caldew Crossing, which will feature 18 beams in total.

A spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: “Due to the nature of these abnormal loads, there may be some unfamiliar noise and disruptions to traffic.
“Please plan your journeys accordingly and consider alternative routes if necessary.
“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this temporary inconvenience. The transportation of abnormal loads is conducted with precision and care to ensure minimal disruption to the community.”
