PLANS for a proposed vehicle spray booth on a Carlisle industrial estate have been approved by planners at Cumberland Council.

The planning application was for a site on land to east of Borderway Mart in Park Road.

The decision was made on Tuesday (October 8) and, according to the council's decision notice, planning permission was approved subject to a number of conditions.

A separate planning report concludes: "In overall terms, the principle of the proposal is acceptable. The scale and design of the development would be appropriate and would not result in a discordant feature within the locality and would not be detrimental to the area.

"The proposal would also not adversely affect the amenity or living conditions of the occupiers of neighbouring properties, highway safety, drainage, trees or biodiversity."

According to a planning statement the site is within the Rosehill Industrial Estate and it is approximately 1.7 miles to the east of Carlisle city centre and located within easy reach of the A69 and the M6.

It adds: "Rosehill Industrial Estate is an established employment area within the city and is home to a range of businesses including a number of motor vehicle showrooms, Pioneer Foodhall, professional services offices and car detailing."

According to the report, the proposal sought planning permission to provide a vehicle spray booth as part of a previously approved vehicle showroom and workshop.

It states: "The development consists of approximately 46.25square metres of new floor space. Access would be retained from the main site access from Park Road on to Allenbrooke Road.

"The spray booth is located within the secure compound area to the rear of the site. The height of the building is approximately 4.4m high dropping to 3.3m high with a mono pitch design. There are no alterations to any other element of the consented scheme."

The planning statement concludes that it was considered that the proposal was fully compliant with national and local policies and will bring significant public benefits by developing a new opportunity for Ford commercial vehicle distribution within the City district.

It adds: "Care has been taken to ensure the development meets the needs of the end user, allows for the long term future of the company in Carlisle, provides employment opportunities and is visually acceptable within the landscape.

"The development is considered to be fully compliant with local and national planning policy."
