Cumberland Council have confirmed that Remembrance Sunday commemorations will go ahead as planned on Sunday, November 10.

The war memorial is currently in storage ahead of its planned move across the Market Square.

The concrete base for the new location has been poured and the Council has said that the major, civic commemoration will take place on Remembrance Sunday.

A spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: “The concrete base for the war memorial was poured as part of the ongoing regeneration works, and the war memorial has been carefully removed and placed into safe storage.

“We’re working closely with the Royal British Legion to ensure the memorial is respectfully repositioned, and we’re happy to confirm that Remembrance Sunday commemorations on 10 November will go ahead as planned.”
