THE best pubs for beer drinkers in Carlisle have been revealed as part of this year's new CAMRA beer guide.

The Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide – the UK’s best-selling beer and pub guide – is now in its 52nd edition.

It is known as the definitive resource for beer enthusiasts across the UK, featuring 4,500 of the top pubs.

Included in the 4,500 best pubs are six from across Carlisle:

  • King’s Head Inn, Fisher Street
  • Last Zebra,  Lowther Street
  • Milbourne Arms, Milbourne Street
  • Woodrow Wilson, Botchergate
  • Sportsman Inn, Heads Lane
  • Spinners Arms, Cummersdale

Other pubs throughout the county such as Brampton's Howard Arms and Hesket Newmarket's Old Crown have also made the list.

The Spinners Arms, in Cummersdale, were also presented with a Silver Medal by Solway CAMRA after having featured for over 15 consecutive years in the Good Beer Guide.

CAMRA Chairman Ash Corbett-Collins said: "CAMRA’s mission is to ensure support from the Government as well as tangible legislation to protect pubs across each nation of the UK.

"By next year’s edition of the Guide, we want to be talking about the beer and pub trade growing with the support of communities and parliament alike.”
