A Carlisle primary school has visited the home of Manchester United, Old Trafford, as part of its partnership with the Premier League club's foundation.
On Tuesday, October 8 students from Newtown Primary School travelled to Manchester to visit the Theatre of Dreams and take part in a number of activities with the club's foundation.
These activities included working with the Premier League club and sportswear giant Adidas on sustainability and environmental issues.
The Manchester United Foundation works in partnership with Carlisle's Richard Rose Central Academy and as part of this works with a number of local primary schools to ease the transition from primary to secondary.
The foundation also delivers sessions on first aid and develops initiatives such as sports leaders and 'Eco Reds'.
Adam Whitfield is a primary school manager at the Manchester United Foundation and works directly with Richard Rose Central Academy and primary schools such as Newtown.
He said: "We work with primary schools in Carlisle like Newtown, Brook Street, North Street, and St. Margaret Mary's."
"My job is based on transition and making that jump from primary to secondary smooth and amongst that we deliver lots of different programs from first aid, discrimination awareness, mentoring and we do that across all the primary schools and across all ages.
"We have these opportunities that come along like when these guys were at Old Trafford last week where the students become environmental ambassadors.
"At the event, they worked with Adidas and Manchester United to see how they keep the environment safe and they had a workshop with the University of Manchester."
Mhairi Roberts is the headteacher at Newtown Primary School and thanked Adam and the Manchester United Foundation for their work and how it fits into the school's goals.
She said: "We are passionate about enriching the school experience of our pupils, and I would like to thank Adam Whitfield and Manchester United Foundation for the support they offer pupils and families at Newtown Primary School.
"Our partnership with Manchester United Foundation is giving our pupils the chance to work alongside some inspirational names from the world of sport.
"It is immensely rewarding to watch our pupils take on leadership responsibilities across school which enable them to develop a sense of themselves, build their resilience, and be the best they can be."
