A Penrith community group has said that it is 'incredibly proud' as it celebrates its one-year anniversary.

The Purple Footprint Project, which has a team of seven people, was launched in Penrith on October 9, 2023, and in the year since its creation has aimed to reduce loneliness and connect all age groups in the community.

The project was launched by Penrith local Cameron Stewart who has overseen the creation of initiatives such as Purple Footprint's 'Pay it Forward' scheme, which was launched in May.

This scheme sees people pay in advance for snacks and drinks at Penrith cafes, that the group has partnered with such as the Cosy Cup Cafe, Arturo Lounge, and Three Crowns Tea Room.

As the project marks its one-year anniversary, Cameron expressed his delight at its success so far and the response to the 'Pay it Forward' scheme.

He said: "Our first year has gone quickly and we’ve been very fortunate, to have so much kind support in the community of Penrith and surrounding areas.

We’ve received financial donations from Lake District Estates and North Lakes Bakery, towards our community engagement. Our core aims are to connect all age groups, reduce loneliness, and create more community kindness.

We set up the Purple Pay Ahead idea, where three businesses- Cozy Cup, Three Crowns Tea room, and Arturo Lounges, all have a board.

"Anyone can buy an item for the board and it’s for anyone no matter their circumstances, to take a ticket off the board and enjoy.

"We just want everyone to feel connected to their community. It's had much success and support."

Cameron also thanked the team of volunteers who help him bring the vision for the project to life in the local area.

He said: "The project has a team of seven people who all very kindly give their time voluntarily.

The support of them and the community really helps the project grow and run. We held an event at Cozy Cup on October 9 to celebrate our first anniversary.

Also, Glenridding now has an outreach group doing crafts and including all age groups in that community. We hope to expand to other areas.

"I’m incredibly proud and grateful of what the project has achieved and is continuing to be able to do. We hope for another busy and successful year ahead."
