NEW data has revealed the streets in Carlisle to have received the most parking tickets since April last year.
A freedom of information request, submitted by the News & Star, has revealed that £265,840 has been generated in revenue from fines on Carlisle's streets since the formation of Cumberland Council last year to the end of September 2024.
Of this figure, £107,055 has come from ten of the city's 10 most ticketed streets.
Castle Street leads the pack with 935 penalties issued, followed by Rickergate and Cecil Street with 553 and 519 fines, respectively.
Penalty notices, which can be issued for reasons such as parking on yellow lines or on a dropped kerb, have brought in a total of £29,665 from Castle Street alone.
Across the city as a whole, 11,189 penalty charges have been issued within the time.

The full breakdown of the top 10 most ticketed streets and revenue generated is as follows:
- Castle Street – 935 tickets, £29,665
- Rickergate – 553 tickets, £13,070
- Cecil Street – 519 tickets, £9,365
- Aglionby Street – 446 tickets, £7,300
- Crosby Street – 357 tickets, £11,770
- Chatsworth Square – 325 tickets, £7,920
- Warwick Street – 289 tickets, £9,120
- Lowther Street – 279 tickets, £5,090
- Strand Road – 251 tickets, £7,710
- Corporation Road – 245 tickets, £6,045
Parking tickets are rated between higher or lower scales in the city, depending on the seriousness of the offence.
Higher rate charges come in at £70 but will be discounted to £35 if you pay within 14 days of the issue date.
Types of higher-level offences include parking in a:
- restricted area in a car park
- permit bay without clearly displaying a valid permit
- in a car park or area not designated for that class of vehicle
- on yellow lines
- loading area without loading
Similarly, lower rate charges come in at £50 and reduced to £25 if paid within the 14-day timeframe.
Types of lower-level offences include:
- parking after the expiry of paid time
- parking in a car park without displaying a valid pay and display ticket
- not parking correctly within the markings of a bay space
- parking in a closed car park
- parking in a disc zone without displaying a valid disc
- parking for longer than permitted
