A DRUG-driver who was stopped by police and asked to take a drugs test told the officer, ‘I will fail that’.
Logan Corrie, 18, was driving a Seat Ibiza on Woodhouse Road in Whitehaven on April 3. He was seen by police driving in excess of the 30mph speed limit, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the defendant had ‘pinprick pupils’. A drugs wipe was requested and Corrie’s response was ‘I will fail that’.
He gave a positive indication for cocaine. He was arrested and taken to the police station.
A blood sample showed he had 368mcg of Benzoylecgonine – the body breakdown product for cocaine – per litre of blood. The specified limit is 50mcg.
Ms Fee said the defendant had been disqualified from driving for 18 months in July for a separate driving offence which took place after this one. He must take an extended re-test before driving again.
Corrie, who was not legally represented, had nothing to say about the offence.
He pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
Magistrates imposed a two-year driving ban and a £200 fine. Corrie, of Cumberland Road, Hensingham, Whitehaven, must also pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
