REMEMBRANCE Day is set to be marked in Carlisle with a 'stunning' poppy display at The Lanes Shopping Centre.
Local charity Carlisle Matters has teamed up with The Lanes to create the display ahead of Remembrance Day 2024.
Carlisle Matters' Yarn Bombers, a knitting group that was formed in May, has been working alongside the wider crafting community for months to create the knitted and crocheted poppy display that will decorate The Lanes.
The knitted poppies will be installed inside the shopping centre, on the steps of the tourist information centre, the Market Cross, and Carlisle Cathedral, with installation set to begin on Friday, October 25.
Ahead of the installation, Helen Fisher from Carlisle Matters thanked local crafters for helping to bring the Remembrance Day display to life.
She said: "This is very exciting, and we are looking forward to more installations to develop a creative backdrop for the city.
"This wouldn’t be happening without the support of The Lanes, Carlisle, and hundreds of people all around Carlisle. We can’t thank you enough."
The Lanes' centre manager Susan Young called the display a fitting way to commemorate Remembrance Day 2024.
She said: "This is going to be a stunning display and tribute to commemorate Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday and thank those who fought for our freedom."
Stephen Dunn of Cumberland Council added: "It’s a great way to engage with the community in a creative and cooperative way.
"The intention is that we develop projects that will be of benefit to our area."
Carlisle Matters' Yarn Bombers Group was formed in May by Charlotte White who encouraged local crafters to get involved with the project.
She said: "It’s been a wonderful way to bring the community together to create something fabulous for the City of Carlisle.
