A charity is launching more weekly sessions for men struggling with their mental health across Cumbria.

#ANDYSMANCLUB, a male suicide prevention charity, currently hosts Monday evening sessions to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for men to discuss their feelings.

In a bid to extend its reach to as many people as possible across the county, the charity will start a second club in Carlisle on November 11 and a new club at the Innovia Lowther R&D Centre in Wigton on November 4.

There are also plans for a club in Penrith.

The existing sessions at Carlisle United Community Trust often see up to 50 participants.

The new club at Carlisle East Fire Station aims to create smaller, less intimidating groups, while offering local services to residents of other parts of the city.

Chris Green, the lead facilitator of the Carlisle branch of #ANDYSMANCLUB, said: “The group at Carlisle shows that there is a lot of demand for our services in the city, so opening a new club will mean that we can reach more men and offer an environment which may be less daunting for participants if there’s too many group members.

"#ANDYSMANCLUB provides a lifesaving service where we let men know that 'it’s okay to talk' and as long as there is a need for our services, we will ensure we offer sessions which are easy to access and prove valuable to our members."

The charity runs clubs across Cumbria in several locations including Grasslot Welfare Sports and Social Club in Maryport, Whitehaven Rugby Club, and Barrow AFC.

They meet every Monday evening at 7pm, except on bank holidays.
