FLOOD warnings are in place across two area's in Cumbria, with the Environment Agency warning the public to 'act now'.
Two places in Carlisle and the surrounding areas have been issued with 'flood warnings' by the Environment Agency, with the organisation saying they will update the warnings at lunchtime today, October 17.
River Eden at Low Crosby, Warwick Holmes
Flood warning area: Low lying roads, agricultural land and isolated properties adjacent to the River Eden in the Warwick Holmes area.
In an update the Environment Agency said' river levels are expected to remain high at the Linstock gauge throughout the day'.
The public are asked to 'avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water'.
River Eden at Carlisle, Rickerby Park, Swifts and Stoneyholme Golf Courses
Flood warning area: Low lying roads, car parks, public spaces and recreational facilities at Rickerby Park, Swifts and Stoneyholme Golf Courses.
In an update the Environment Agency said 'river levels are expected to remain high throughout the day' on October, 17.
The public are asked to 'avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through'.
A flood warning means that flooding is expected so you should act now.
What you should do
You should regularly check if there’s a flood warning for your area and follow the official advice.
If a warning is issued, you should:
- protect yourself and your loved ones
- move your loved ones, pets and valuables to a safe place
- move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building
- turn off the gas, electricity and water in your home if it’s safe
- put flood protection equipment in place
- do as the emergency services tell you
- help others if it’s safe to do so
