A student at Brampton's William Howard School is celebrating success after competing in the Horse of The Year Show 2024.

Milly Philipson is a Year 10 student at William Howard School and competed in the 75th anniversary Horse of The Year Show (HOYS) that took place in the NEC Arena in Birmingham between Wednesday, October 9, and Sunday, October 13.

Milly, riding the horse Drumacre Sir Patrick, 'Paddy', finished in ninth place in the Coloured Junior Ridden Pony of The Year category, and after her performance was presented with a commemorative ribbon.

"It was a magical day, full of celebrations," Emma said.

"The horse of The Year Show is every showing person's dream and to be ninth in her first time was brilliant.

"It's not a natural environment for the ponies and it's really buzzy so to see them both in the Top Spec Area together going so well was the icing on the cake after all of their hard work.

"I'm so proud of Milly and Paddy, she rode amazingly. It was 5-year-old Paddy's, first time at HOYS this year and he was brilliant.

Milly will be back in action when she competes in the London International Horse Show finals in December.

However, ahead of her next competition and after her achievement in the Horse of The Year Show, William Howard School's director of learning for year 10 Sarah Ledger expressed her pride.

She said: "We are so proud of Milly achieving at such a high level.

"The Horse of the Year Show is an internationally recognised competition and to be placed 9th in the country is a remarkable achievement.

"We wish her all the very best for the International Horse Show finals in December."

William Howard School's headteacher Kath Pigdon added: "We are immensely proud of Milly on her incredible success at the Horse of the Year Show.

"Her dedication, hard work, and passion have truly shone through, and she has exemplified what it means to live by our school's ethos of being 'the best you can be'.

"We look forward to seeing her continue to excel in the future."
