A PENRITH man has lost 10 stone, allowing him to go back to work and avoid knee surgery.
Paul Kirkbridge’s journey with Slimming World began in September 2021. At the time, he was dealing with several health issues, including struggling to walk up the hill to his home without stopping for breath and needing breaks halfway through walking his dog.
His weight had become a major concern, leading to mobility problems and even the consideration of a knee replacement operation.
Receiving a Slimming World leaflet in the mail was the final push Paul needed to make a change. Starting on a 12-week GP referral program, Paul embraced a mindset shift, choosing healthier options and making long-lasting changes to his lifestyle.
One of his biggest changes was reducing his intake of lager and swapping it for spirits with Diet Coke. The results were astounding—he not only avoided knee surgery but also made a full return to work after having had to leave due to health issues.
Paul’s weight loss was dramatic, shrinking from a 52-inch waist to a 34-inch waist. His increased fitness means that the once-daunting hill he lives on is now no challenge at all—he “flies” up it with ease. Paul’s favourite meal is chicken, leek, and pearl barley stew, and he’s grateful for the many friendships he’s made in his Slimming World group, especially with Caroline. His renewed health has allowed him to enjoy life more fully, including socializing and weekends away—something that once seemed impossible.
Paul’s story is a powerful example of how mindset and support can lead to life-changing outcomes. Paul’s journey with Slimming World not only transformed his health but also his relationships with friends, family, and other members in the Slimming World community. Before joining, his social life had suffered due to his health issues, with the weight limiting his ability to enjoy activities and outings. As he became more active and confident, his relationships improved.
His family also witnessed the positive changes. They saw him grow stronger and healthier, more capable of participating in family activities that were once difficult.
