PLANS to demolish an existing stable block and replace it with new horse stables and store in Tallentire have been approved by planners at Cumberland Council.

The application was for a site on land next to Herdwick House in Fernleigh Close and planning permission has granted with conditions.

According to a planning statement the existing stables consist of two mobile horse stables and two store areas which were built around 20 years ago.

The report states: "The stables are located in a paddock area to the southeast of Herdwick House and face a manege arena which is all in the same ownership and part of a farm small holding.

"The proposal is to replace the stables with newly constructed timber stables consisting of four stables and a store under a profile sheet roof but fixed partly on the existing concrete slab and part extension to the concrete slab in an L-shape arrangement.

"Access is via an existing bridleway/farm track which serves a small number of other users including other stables and will remain un-changed since vehicles and horses already use the track.

"There is existing vehicular parking adjacent the proposed stable which remains unchanged. Boundary fencing will remain unchanged."

It is proposed that roof drainage from the building will be collected in water butts and when full would be allowed to soak away naturally.

According to the officer's report the proposal site is located in an isolated position and detached from the village of Tallentire, by approximately 200m, the site is accessed via a public footpath from Fernleigh Close.
