ROCKFALL has led to the closure of a road in the Lake District.
Cumberland Council has put in place an emergency road closure on Thirlmere's West Road, between Launchy Gill and Rough Crag, following a significant rockfall at Rough Crag earlier today (October 21).
The council is currently assessing the situation to determine the extent of the rockfall and any potential risks to the local environment.
The road will remain closed until further notice, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and use the diversion route via the A591 if necessary.
A spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: "The closure has been implemented to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians in the area."
The council has also thanked the public for their patience as they work to resolve the situation.
