CROSBY-ON-EDEN Primary School has said that it is 'delighted' after being awarded a new 'good' Ofsted rating.

The school, which is located in Low Crosby near Carlisle, was inspected by the education watchdog on Tuesday, June 25 before being awarded the new rating in September.

To celebrate the achievement, Crosby-on-Eden Primary School was visited by Carlisle United on Wednesday, October 23, with midfielder Dylan McGeouch and striker Georgie Kelly on hand to visit the school's pupils.

Speaking after the visit, headteacher Claire Keitch was on hand to express her delight at the 'good' inspection that called the Crosby-on-Eden a 'welcoming and happy school.'

She said: "We are delighted. A lot of hard work has gone into it and it was a really long wait for the staff.

"Our children come to school and they love learning. They are keen and inquisitive, they know what they like and what they want.

"We are really welcoming, this is really a school community, a school family, and the younger children are well looked after by the older children and everyone is included in the opportunities we have here."

The visit also connected to the opening of the school's new outdoor Trim Trail, which was funded by a parent-teacher association event.

Claire was keen to highlight how this new equipment shows the school's commitment to active learning.

She said: "When I came our field was just a field and we have a lot of active children that need movement breaks and we are promoting fitness.

"We felt the outside area just needed that little bit more to give the children more stimulation to practice their climbing and develop their upper body strength and coordination skills which not all children get the opportunity to do.

"All of the children have loved having it out there and we are looking at how we can continue to develop other things like that at the school."

Claire also said thank you to Carlisle United, Georgie Kelly, and Dylan McGeouch for taking the time to visit Crosby-on-Eden's students.

She said: "We have after-school clubs provided by Carlisle United and sometimes they come in and the children really enjoy that.

"For us, it was about how we can engage the children and give them something back and do something a bit different and we were really pleased that they could come in and were willing to meet the children and have a chat with them.

"It was great to have these role models in the school that our pupils can aspire to be like."
