There were new and returning faces at the most recent Bewcastle Sunday Hub held at Bewcastle Primary School.

Local people of all ages popped along to hub on Sunday for the opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping with independent businesses, as well as have a catch-up with each other over bacon sandwiches and cakes baked by school pupils.

Children enjoyed making their own smoothies on the 'Blender Bike' and sampling ice cream from Brampton's new Moo shop. Natural England was also on hand to talk about Bolton Fell Moss and Creation Mill of Langholm had people creating their own woolly crafts.

The Bewcastle Hub Team said: "We were delighted that so many people came to the hub, many of the regulars but it was super to see so many new faces as well – we look forward to the school hosting the hub in the near future."

Carlisle MP Julie Minns was in attendance too, where she picked up some locally made items such as a card holder from Lyne Valley Wood Crafts and cards from Pat of the Knowe.

She had recently discussed the Hub in the House of Commons during a debate on small rural communities where she mentioned the importance of the hub for the people of Bewcastle whilst also asking the second church estates commissioner for extra funding to improve Bewcastle Village Hall.

Ms Minns said: "Geographically, it is a very isolated community, but every single month, parishioners organise a vibrant community hub, which is critical in overcoming social isolation and loneliness."
