A recent week-long operation aimed at tackling business crime in Carlisle has proven successful.
According to the Carlisle Business Crime Awareness group, ‘10 people were detained with well over £600 of stock recovered and returned to targeted businesses'.
Three of those detained were adult women who went shoplifting with their young children, Cumbria Police confirmed.
The National Safer Business Week of Action, led by Carlisle neighbourhood policing team (NPT), also aimed to address a rise in crimes targeting independent jewellery and antique businesses in the area.
The operation saw the launch of the ShopSafe alert information-sharing platform to help reduce crime among these businesses.
A spokesperson from Carlisle Business Crime Awareness said: “A big thank you to all businesses, store staff, The Lanes Shopping Centre & Cathedral Lodge Antiques who all supported this Week of Action.
“By working in partnership we can make the Great Border City safe and secure for workers, residents, shoppers and visitors.”
