A planning application has been submitted for a new leisure facility.
The proposals for the leisure facility in Millom and Haverigg are now another step closer to completion.
The facility is part of the Millom Town Deal Activating Community Health project, which is one of four projects in the Millom Town Deal.
The Millom Town Deal secured £20.6 million from the UK Government's Town's Fund, along with £8.7 million in match funding.
Thomas Armstrong Group, based in the Cumberland area, has been chosen to design and build the facility.
The leisure facility will include a swimming pool, sports hall, and fitness studios.
The aim is to 'improve community health and well-being by providing residents with a modern, multi-purpose and fully inclusive facility.'
It is also hoped the facility will attract visitors to the town, supporting the long-term financial sustainability of the leisure centre and boosting spending within local businesses.
David Savage, chair of Millom Town Deal Board, said: "This I am sure is the news the community has been patiently waiting to hear as we now seek to secure the next big milestone for the leisure complex, with the submission of the planning application.
"Subject to planning approval, we can look forward to a 'shovel in the ground' in early 2025.
"This long-awaited news will build confidence that the leisure complex is actively moving forward and will significantly contribute to this town’s offer as an attractive place to live, work and visit."
Work continues on other parts of the Town Deal projects.
