A Carlisle church has featured on BBC One’s ‘Songs of Praise’ programme on Sunday, October 27.
A recording of the choir and congregation of St Cuthbert’s in the city centre singing the well-loved hymn ‘Blessed Assurance’ was used on the programme on Sunday afternoon.
The recording was made in May 2019 when more than 350 people crammed into St Cuthbert to record a number of hymns for the BBC.
The St Cuthbert’s choir was augmented by children from Norman Street School, St Cuthbert’s School and St Margaret Mary School and the organ was played by Jerry King.

The programme was a feature on the life and work of award-winning saxophonist and broadcaster YolanDa Brown.
YolanDa was interviewed by singer and broadcaster, Aled Jones who asked her about the role her faith has played in her career.
She selected the Carlisle recording of ‘Blessed Assurance’ as the final hymn of the show.
